"I Can Make a Yankee Hat More Famous than a Yankee Can"

For the first time in his career, rap mogul Jay-Z is endorsing his beloved Yankees. Brooklyn-born Jay-Z teamed up with the NY Yankees to make the the Blueprint 3/Yankees clothing line, which will be available starting this week at Yankee Stadium. This is very exciting for New Yorkers who admire the man who said, “I can make a Yankee hate more famous than a Yankee can,” in Empire State of Mind. The clothing line promotes Mr. Carter’s “Blueprint 3” album while keeping the traditional Yankee colors of white and navy. Offering hoodies, t-shirts, and fitted caps, the limited edition collection is expected to sell out quickly. A close source made a call to Yankee Stadium to find out the collection will most likely be sold out by the time of the special concert at the new stadium featuring Jay-Z and Eminem this September.

Although Jay-Z is already connected to sports, being co-owner of the New Jersey Nets, this is his first venture with the Bronx Bombers. “Empire State of Mind” took New Yorkers by storm and became the un-official NY anthem after the performance between Jay-Z and Alicia Keys during the championship game this past year. Almost everyone I am acquainted with is a fan of both Jay-Z and the New York Yankees. I don’t think anyone will mind the home jersey that features S.Carter with the number 4, the same as Lou Gehrig. This is just another way Jay-Z shows his fans he stays faithful to New York.

Colombia Luxury Show Recap

On Friday, August 27th, I had the honor of attending my first Colombian fashion show. The first ever Colombia Luxury Show featured the best of the country’s fashion, beauty, health and tourism. As a prelude to New York Fashion Week right around the corner, this show was filled with fabulous people, art, and fashion.

The two day event kicked off at The Altman Building in New York City Friday night. As I walked around I found the most intriguing Colombian art work and high fashion on display from the second you walk in. Fabulous jewelry by Colombian designer, Mercedes Salazar, was a beautiful added touch on the displayed fashion. Work by Colombian photographers including Carlos Ruiz and Mauricio Velez. hung elegantly from the ceilings on display for the lucky invites.

Andrea Riaño, general manager of the Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show gushed,
“We wanted New York to enjoy the real image of our country, Colombia – our land,
our culture, our people, and our products.” It was indeed a beautiful image that was left in my mind after the event. She went on to say, “The goal of the Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show this year is to introduce New Yorkers to what Colombia has to offer, focusing on our fashion, beauty, health and tourism opportunities.”

A series of three fashion shows began at 8pm, starting off with Pitahaya Swimwear. Spring 2011 collection.  Founded about five years ago, this was the first time designer Chechy Beneditti showcased her beautiful swimwear in New York. The sexy looks have already been featured in Marie Claire, Elle, as well as many other publications.

Before the next show we got a special live performance by Latin Grammy Nominated Colombian musician, Andres Cabas. Although I was not familiar with his work, the crowd absolutely adored him! Cabas performed a medley of songs while playing a gorgeous white piano.

Next up, Silvia Alfonzo‘s Spring 2011 collection owned the catwalk. According to her, the designs are made for the “feminine and sophisticated woman”. She began the line in 2007, and has several stores in Colombia. You can see her work disturbed across the world in boutiques and it was a special treat for all in attendance.

Last but not least on the runway was Edwing D’Angelo‘s collection preview. D’Angelo is a custom designer for celebrities such as Patti LaBelle, Winoma Judd, Vivica A. Fox, and more. He is well known for colorful Latin flare and has been featured in various movies, television networks, and magazines across the globe. The crowd was wooed by D’Angelo’s craftwork for both men and women. I loved how the collection was so versatile and unique with every look that passed.

Other Designers featured throughout the night included: Silvia Tcherassi, Amelia Toro, Isabel Henao, Francesca Miranda, Jean Pascal by Helena Quintana, Angel Yañez, Pepa Pombo, Adriana Santacruz and Hernan Zajar. Handcrafts were featured by: FRANCISCO EL HOMBRE, Hilda Gómez, CF Artesanos. Health and beauty was covered by Smile Designer Marlon Becerra, Plastic Surgeon Alan Gonzalez, Dentistry by Antonio Leon, and many more. Colombian tourism at the event was represented by the Departments (states) of Santander, Guajira, Tolima, and the Natural Parks and Reserves of Colombia.

Special thanks to ALIOMI and FrockOn.com for inviting me to such an amazing event! It was an incredible experience to see Colombia’s best right in my own city. Colombia is filled with rich culture and divine fashion; I need to book a flight ASAP!

How To: Get the Best Beach Waves

It doesn’t have to be summer all year-long to get some fabulous beach waves. With just a few sprays of  FX Special Effects Shag Spray my waves go from drab to fab. After applying the spray evenly throughout my hair, I french braid my locks and let air dry. In a hurry? You can get the same effect by using a hair dryer on warm after weaving the braid.

I use it almost everyday because it leaves my waves so pronounced but soft at the same time. Shag Spray has been my savior from the evil straightening iron all summer because it looks great without spending hours on your hair. Since breaking off ties with the straightener, my hair has actually grown significantly this summer.

Because I believe in this product so much, I will be giving out a gift bag with FX Special Effects Hair Products to my 400th twitter follower on @NYCAngela, courtesy of the amazing people at LaForce + Stevens! You must also be following my newest twitter for the site, @HAUTENYC In all honestly, whether you win or not – go out and try it! You won’t be disappointed.

First: Spritz Shag Spray through hair.

Second: Weave a tight french braid. Add more Shag Spray if necessary.

Third: Let air dry. Toussle hair with fingers & Enjoy.

Haute Couple: Kim Kardashian & Miles Austin

Everyone knows the Kardashian girls love their athletes; and who can really blame the athletes for wanting loving them back? Around two weeks ago, Kim K told E! Online’s PartyGirl, “I’m definitely dating” Miles Austin. Austin, a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, will even be seen in season 5 of Keeping up with the Kardashians! Kim also tells E! that she wants to take things slow because of their busy schedules. Busy or not, when they are caught together they look haute. Although Miles’ style may be more laid-back than the glamorous Miss Kim, they look great with one another. In the picture below, Kim is rocking amazing Christian Louboutin Clou Neoud Studded Platform Pumps and Miles is chilling in Converse by John Varvatos Chuck Taylor Slip-ons.
