A Haute Minute: Italian designer Pamela Quinzi

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the Chelsea style house of Italian born fashion designer, Pamela Quinzi. Pamela was such a gracious hostess, letting us play dress up with all her gorgeous shoes and dresses. She revealed how she has only been living in New York for only a year, but is infatuated with the city. Born in Rome, Italy, Pamela moved to Milan after high school to study in Europe’s most prestigious fashion university, ISTITUTO MARANGONI.

When asked about her feelings on New York, Pamela replied, “After 10 minutes in Time Square, I knew I had to live in New York! This city bring to my life so much energy every day and inspires my work. I spent the summer in Manhattan and I returned to Italy to pack up my apartment.”

HAUTE NYC: How did your passion for fashion design begin?

Pamela: I really think I was born to be a fashion designer. haha Since I was very young, at the age of 4 years old, I started to designs dresses and shoes. I still have a book that my mom did for me collecting all my small sketches!

HAUTE NYC: Where do you draw inspiration from your designs? Does your own style have any influence on your creative mind?

Pamela: I love the history of fashion. My style reminds me of the baroque allure; all the embroidery, lace, crystals, and the feeling to be a princess! But now, I am a  New York pop princess!

HAUTE NYC: Where can we find Pamela Quinzi designs? What are your plans as a designer for the upcoming year?

Pamela: Right now, I feel very lucky because you can find Pamela Quinzi Design in one of the most fashionable and trendy shops in Manhattan, MODALISTAS, located at the Limelight Market on 6avenue and 21st street! I’m also planning to sell my collection online very soon! I will have more fashion show to promote myself in NY and in Italy! My collection doesn’t really have a season. They are unique pieces, handmade art creations. At least, I like to call theme like that!

A Haute Minute: Jewelry Designer Carola Bun

Canadian jewelry designer Carola Bun has designed jewelry for the most fashionable individuals including Lady Gaga, Brandy, and Lady Starlight. I was able to chat with the jewelry maven for a full frockOn 5 feature on frockOn.com. Angela Samartano gets the scoop from Miss BUN herself.

HAUTE NYC: How did you begin your business in jewelry and parfum creation?

Carola: Jewelry: For several years, I’ve made couture dresses. In August of last year, I became inspired by the designs of India and began adding hundreds, if not thousands of beads to the dresses I was creating. My beadwork progressed and moved me to work with pearls. Coco Chanel has always inspired me and the idea of a single strand of pearls married with a pair of stylized embroidery scissors came to mind; Chanel wore something very similar as she worked, therefore the necklace I created in her honor is aptly named “Coco”. Within a few weeks later, the Tutu Collection was born! Parfum: I’ve always loved fragrance, particularly scents with floral, feminine notes. Often, when I’m in the process of visioning a design or an idea, I’ll associate a scent with it. Creating a signature BUN fragrance was by far the biggest challenge to date. I made the assumption that by simply combining all my favorite essential oils, I would have the ultimate Parfum. Not the case. Many hours that turned into days and weeks were spent researching, combining, sampling and testing before Lady Godiva, a true, perfect Parfum was complete. Eau de Toilettes have become commonplace and true parfums costly and symbolic of days gone by. I want to bring that back. Place just a drop of “Lady Godiva Parfum” wherever you wish to be kissed!

HAUTE NYC: At the young age of 23 years old, you have already accomplished so much. What has been the best experience of your career thus far?

Carola: I attribute much of my success to the great people that have come into my life. Within one year of designing and making jewelry, I’ve had the opportunity to design for Lady Gaga, Lady Starlight, Lisa Mazzucco, Brandy, The Grammys and the Oscars! For my generation, there is much wonderment and excitement surrounding Starlets of today. Being a part of that is my greatest accomplishment so far.

BUN Styling Lady Starlight

HAUTE NYC: What is your favorite part about being a designer? What can we expect from the BUN brand in the upcoming months?

Carola: Bringing an idea from concept to creation, making something so special and unique that has never existed before, a physical object that you can touch and feel, then seeing others experience sheer joy from something I have created is magic. In the coming months, there are many exciting things ahead for BUN: two new collections “La Petite Fleur” and “Le Phantome”, BUN Events, and a BUN world tour.

Haute Looks: Get Silky Skin with Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson’s latest line of products can keep anyones skin as smooth as a baby. Whether or not there are any babies in your life, you can always count on these products for deep moisturizing and the ultimate clean feeling. HAUTE NYC’s Angela & Magen share two of their favorite new Johnson & Johnson products to keep you looking haute.

Magen

We all know that haute moms are always busy and in a rush, but somehow should still find the time to look and feel fabulous. Johnson & Johnson products are perfect for Haute moms, or any woman on the go. Products like the Baby Oil Gel with Shea and Cocoa Butter are just what the beauty gods created for staying fresh and moisturized. Though generally created for use on babies these products serve a dual purpose. Not only will your baby’s skin be protected but so will yours. Only $3.29 for 6.5 oz, this body gel oil is perfect for maintaining moisture and adding a glow to your skin. For extra moisture I recommend using the gel after shaving and when your body is still wet, doing so locks in the moisture and leaves you feeling baby smooth for hours. Other great uses for this product are for massages, we all know how being a mom can be a tad-bit stressful but go ahead, treat yourself to a massage using the oil gel, you will sure feel fantastic. I am a big fan of body oils, I often prefer to use them over lotions as they tend to hold on to moisture longer and leave me feeling a bit on the sexy side. This product can be found in food, drug and general mass-market chain stores, so go on treat yourself, you know you deserve it.

Angela

The winter months can be harsh on any skin, young or old. Many body washes tend to gear toward a particular scent rather than the moisture of your skin. There are others that promise smooth and soft skin, but seem to end up leaving a greasy feel to the skin. The perfect balance between the two lays in the new Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Oil Body Wash with Shea & Cocoa Butter that instantly became my new favorite. Since the day I tried it, I have actually found a noticeable difference in the softness of my skin by using the body wash. Winter in New York this year has been one of the worst on record, and this has been the one product that allows me to battle the dreaded dry skin of winter. Since beginning my obsession with this at the beginning of the month, my skin is ready for summer and so am I! The aromatic scent of cocoa and shea butters are reminiscent of a warm summer day and is so refreshing on the skin. For only $3.99 in any drugstore, you can get a 15oz. bottle that is definitely worth the purchase.

Haute Looks: Boy Meets Girl USA Fall 2011 Presentation

This past Tuesday, I had the pleasure of attending the Fall 2011 Boy Meets Girl USA 2011 Presentation at the Metropolitan Pavilion for New York Fashion Week. Sponsored by Style 360 and Polaroid, the event was one of the most fun experiences of all fashion week. A mixed crowd of editors, bloggers, photographers, and celebrities included the likes of songstress Kat Deluna, the fabulous Jay Alexander, and even Danielle Staub of Real Housewives of New Jersey. The opening of the show consisted of a beautiful performance by Natasha Bedingfield that had every fashion maven in attendance clapping their hands along to the beat.

I was especially excited for the presentation after interviewing the designer, Stacy Igel on both HAUTE NYC and frockOn.com. I have compiled a few of my favorite looks from the show. For all of my thoughts on the event, check out my article on frockOn. xO
