Haute Looks: Get Silky Skin with Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson’s latest line of products can keep anyones skin as smooth as a baby. Whether or not there are any babies in your life, you can always count on these products for deep moisturizing and the ultimate clean feeling. HAUTE NYC’s Angela & Magen share two of their favorite new Johnson & Johnson products to keep you looking haute.

We all know that haute moms are always busy and in a rush, but somehow should still find the time to look and feel fabulous. Johnson & Johnson products are perfect for Haute moms, or any woman on the go. Products like the Baby Oil Gel with Shea and Cocoa Butter are just what the beauty gods created for staying fresh and moisturized. Though generally created for use on babies these products serve a dual purpose. Not only will your baby’s skin be protected but so will yours. Only $3.29 for 6.5 oz, this body gel oil is perfect for maintaining moisture and adding a glow to your skin. For extra moisture I recommend using the gel after shaving and when your body is still wet, doing so locks in the moisture and leaves you feeling baby smooth for hours. Other great uses for this product are for massages, we all know how being a mom can be a tad-bit stressful but go ahead, treat yourself to a massage using the oil gel, you will sure feel fantastic. I am a big fan of body oils, I often prefer to use them over lotions as they tend to hold on to moisture longer and leave me feeling a bit on the sexy side. This product can be found in food, drug and general mass-market chain stores, so go on treat yourself, you know you deserve it.

The winter months can be harsh on any skin, young or old. Many body washes tend to gear toward a particular scent rather than the moisture of your skin. There are others that promise smooth and soft skin, but seem to end up leaving a greasy feel to the skin. The perfect balance between the two lays in the new Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Oil Body Wash with Shea & Cocoa Butter that instantly became my new favorite. Since the day I tried it, I have actually found a noticeable difference in the softness of my skin by using the body wash. Winter in New York this year has been one of the worst on record, and this has been the one product that allows me to battle the dreaded dry skin of winter. Since beginning my obsession with this at the beginning of the month, my skin is ready for summer and so am I! The aromatic scent of cocoa and shea butters are reminiscent of a warm summer day and is so refreshing on the skin. For only $3.99 in any drugstore, you can get a 15oz. bottle that is definitely worth the purchase.

Haute Looks: Mulberry Hits America

Liverpool correspondent, Jenni Fleet gushes over the newest UK sensation to hit the states, Mulberry.

Mulberry is an iconic English heritage brand that we’ve well and truly fallen for here in England.  They’re not too ‘on trend’ classic handbags make the top of every fashion girl’s wish list and their pretty tea dresses are what we all dream of wearing while we float around our English manors drinking tea from china teacups.

Alexa Chung

The brains behind the brand, and the iconic Alexa handbag, also understand that Mulberry is the type of ‘go to’ for the girl that can only afford one major spending spree on a handbag.  While having the connotations of grandeur and English luxury, it also appeals to all, especially their handbag department. The infamous Alexa handbag, named after TV starlet Alexa Chung who rocked the fashion world in 2009, was sold out everywhere the minute it went on sale.  It’s classic, timeless satchel style shape made it practical yet oozed with glamour at the same time.  It became the type of bag that you could take anywhere which would give your outfit a little bit of oomph – especially when they came out in an array of colors.  For the third year running, the Alexa has made its debut, this time in a mouth watering watermelon color, perfect for the summer months that lay ahead.

Although the Alexa won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, it has found itself a little competition.  Welcome the Mulberry Tillie. The quintessentially British bag is somewhat similar to the Alexa, but has more of a glamorous, Upper East Side appeal, especially the light peach colored one, which fits perfectly with the announcement of Mulberry increasing their US presence.  Currently only operating from two small stores in NYC – one on Bleecker St & one on Madison Avenue. Mulberry has also announced the arrival of their new flagship store at 132 Spring Street.  I’m sure Mulberry fever will catch on stateside in no time, every fashionista needs a bit of British on her arm every now and again and seeing and Prince William is off the market – what else is there left to do?

On the Street: Haute Eats on a Budget

Magen Martin knows New Yorkers, well everyone, need to hold onto any extra penny they can these days. Check out her tips to eating haute on a budget.

Listen up fashionistas. Now you can still go out on the town and not be concerned about pinching pennies. Companies such as Groupon and BlackboardEats, offer daily discount deals for various services that allow you to have fun while saving money at the same time.

BlackboardEats markets themselves as having “unreal deals at the best restaurants.” This website offers free deals that are e-mailed on a daily basis with a pass code to different restaurants depending on the city you select. They currently service the NYC area, LA, SF and also have an everywhere section which focuses on online food stores. Some recent NYC deals featured the following restaurants: Cipriani Wall Street, Ardesia, Bacaro, La Lucha, and Da Silvano. The daily deals often include a certain percentage off dinner or lunch or a complimentary appetizer with the purchase of an entrée. Some deals have even included a free bottle of wine.  The deals expire a few weeks from the purchase date, so you’ll have to be sure not to miss out. A service like this is great for anyone who is on a budget but still wants to hit the town.

Groupon on the other hand, offers a variety of deals and services. I’ve personally used this site a handful of times for various savings such as discounts on nail salon services, restaurants, and vehicle repair services and even discounted gift cards for clothing stores such as American Apparel. Like BlackboardEats, you sign up for the daily deal, if you are interested in the deal you go ahead and purchase it, the deal is then e-mailed to you, you print out the coupon and provide it to the vendor at time of use.

Raquel, an avid Groupon user, had great reviews on their services; “I wish I knew about Groupon sooner! They have great deals personalized to my taste and interests ranging from dining to fitness, it’s easy to use, and the prices are unbeatable, There’s so many things to do or new things i want to try, but it’s hard to come across an affordable way to experience it, Groupon is a great way to do just that!”

Groupon also caters to the major US cities. Hopefully BlackboardEats spreads its wings and reaches out to other US cities soon. I sure could use some discounts at some local trendy Miami restaurants. In the meanwhile, I’ll use Blackboardeats on my many travels to NYC, such a good way to save money while on vacation or business trips.

Haute Looks: The Air Jordan XI Cool Grey

For many guys, collecting sneakers can be more than just a hobby, but a way of life. Men and boys all over the country search for the latest sneaker before their release in hopes to get their hands on the newest and hautest shoe. Guest blogger Andrew Marano gives us the scoop on the latest Jordan Cool Grey XI sneakers.

The Air Jordan brand seems to not only be masters of shoe design but marketing as well. They obviously realize that the Air Jordan XI is the most iconic signature sneaker in its legendary line, designed by the legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield, and worn by “his Airness” Michael Jordan while he was still in the NBA. Last year Jordan brand released the popular “Space Jam” colorway of the Jordan XI. The nickname Space Jam comes from its appearance in the 1995 Warner Bros. movie “Space Jam” where Michael Jordan enters the cartoon world to team up with Bugs Bunny and friends to take on the “Monstars” who stole the talents from then NBA superstars such as Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley. In the movie Michael Jordan can be seen wearing the Black/Varsity Royal-White colorway of the Jordan XI thus dubbing the shoe as the “Space Jams”. This year Jordan Brand will be releasing another pair of Air Jordan XI for 2010 in the Cool Grey colorway.

The Space Jams were re-released (retroed) on December 23, 2009 to thousands of Air Jordan fans and collectors all over the world. Hundreds of people stood in the cold on December 22, 2009 awaiting the huge midnight release of this iconic sneaker. Needless to say, the shoe was basically sold out by the time retailers opened their doors the following morning on the actual release date. Acknowledging it’s success, Jordan Brand announced in the summer of 2010 that they would be releasing the Jordan XI in the “Cool Grey” colorway, just in time for Christmas once again, on December 23, 2010. This colorway of the Jordan XI is unique because it was not an original color of the XI that was released in 1995. It was released on March 3, 2001 as a “retro +” colorway, meaning although the sneaker design had been previously released, the color scheme was brand new. It is known among sneaker communities that this original Cool Grey XI release was the biggest retro release Jordan Brand had ever done. Every sneaker store across the country sold out in less than an hour. With an original retail price of $125 in 2001, these Cool Grey XI’s have fetched up to $400 on eBay.

With the “re-retro” of the Cool Grey XI shoe only days away, some avid Jordan fans and collectors have already started camping out at their local malls to secure their spot in buying a pair. The retail price of these almost 10 year old sneakers is $175 and is considered a general release. This means that all major Jordan Brand accounts (Finishline, Footlocker, Footaction, Champs, Eastbay, etc.) will receive a multiple pairs of every size. The problem is that because this is such a sought after sneaker, there is still not enough to go around. Be sure to contact your local sneaker retailers for information on the release. Some store are doing reserves while others are doing a first come first serve midnight release on the eve of Christmas Eve. Thanks to a local “connect” I was able to get my hands on these beautiful shoes a few days early. Check out the pictures to decide whether or not you will be among the chaotic sneaker heads lined up to purchase a pair.

The shoe comes in a special edition slide out box with plastic (grey) shoe trees instead of the usual sneaker paper used on all Jordan Brand sneakers. There is also a plastic inside box cover which reads “Tinker made them shine. Mike made them fly. You made them iconic”, as a thank you from Tinker Hatfield and Michael Jordan to the fans, whom made the Air Jordan XI such a huge success.

Here is a video of the original release of the Cool Grey’s in 2001.

Haute Couple: Nicole Richie & Joel Madden Tie the Knot

-Nicole Richie & Joel Madden on New Years Eve 2010-

Just when, I wanted to feature Nicole Richie & Joel Madden as the next Haute Couple, I just learned that the happy couple just tied the knot yesterday in a low key but fabulous ceremony in Los Angeles, in father-of-the-bride Lionel Richie’s own backyard. Richie had celebrity hair stylist Bryon Williams on deck to make sure Nicole’s hair was perfect for the big day. The style icon walked down the aisle in a custom made Marchesa gown, which was made in New York City.

There were around 150 guests in attendance, including buddies Khloe Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Gwen Stefani, and bridesmaid Samantha Ronson. Who else to make the wedding official for the two but rapper Rev. Run of Run-DMC, who just happens to be an ordained minister. Benji Madden, brother to Joel, served as best man while Nicole’s BFF Marsha Gordon was the maid of honor in the ceremony.

Although the couple just wed yesterday, Richie & Madden fell as if they have been husband and wife already. The couple have two beautiful children together, Harlow & Sparrow. Last December, Nicole posted a photo on nicolerichie.com of the happy  family. They’re too cute for words.

Congrats to Joel & Nicole! Here are some haute photos of the fashionable newlyweds through the year.

Music Monday: Axwell at Webster Hall NYC

Last weekend, DJ/producer Axwell of Swedish House Mafia brought electro house beats to famous New York Club, Webster Hall. Axwell is the #10 DJ in the world according to DJMag.com and he proved to NYC exactly why he holds that spot on November 20th. Swedish House Mafia has had worldwide success with their latest club hit, “ONE” that is mixed by all three members of the group, Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. In this Music Monday, I have included some of my own videos from the event at Webster Hall. You can see in the videos alone just how crowded the venue was by the time Axwell took the stage. This was truly a haute event where seemingly everyone was singing and dancing along to every song.  Be sure to check out Webster Hall the next time you are in NYC!
